The Field Artist
Howzit! I’m Nix, a field artist, storyteller and the creator behind The Wildfireblooms.
Raised on a farm in the Midwest, I grew up surrounded by open land and the quiet vibration of the wild. Nature became my first sanctuary, a place where the noise of the world dissolved into stillness. There, I learned to observe with intention and listen with care, finding peace among the whispering trees. The land taught me intuition, connection and the gentle flow of transformation.
My father, an outdoorsman, introduced my sister and me to the flora and fauna that thrived along the mighty Mississippi. Beneath open skies and among tangled riverbanks, we learned to notice the quiet language of the natural world: subtle shifts in movement, changes in birdsong, the feeling that something unseen had just passed nearby. In those moments, our instincts sharpened and curiosity slowly took root.

Once a farm girl, always a farm girl. Meet Lucky. When the herd was counted, we realized a young calf had gone missing. After hours of searching through the thick African bushveld, we finally found him dehydrated, covered in parasites, and dangerously ill. Lucky was nursed back to health and eventually grew up in the backyard, chasing dogs and stealing hearts.
Years later, after moving to Europe, I began to feel the absence of that connection in ways I could no longer ignore. During some of the most difficult seasons of my life, navigating health challenges, profound personal upheaval and rebuilding as a single mother, I found myself returning to Africa - again and again. The African bush became more than a refuge; it became a place of restoration, resilience and remembrance. In the raw beauty of the wild, I was reminded that life still finds a way to heal and begin again. Somewhere along the way, the red dirt settled beneath my skin.
Like the flaming protea that rises from scorched earth, The Wildfireblooms was born from the understanding that transformation often begins in the ashes of what once was. What started as a deeply personal form of expression slowly became something larger. I began to recognize how many others were quietly carrying their own unseen fires: grief, burnout, self-doubt and uncertainty, all while searching for a way back to themselves.
Come wander with me through the wild, the uncertain and the beautifully imperfect. Together, we’ll explore creativity, share stories, reconnect with what matters and find moments of laughter along the way.
Because even after fire, we root deep, burn bright, and bloom again.
Blessings,
Nix
